Clinical Trials Pharmacy Technician

Job Reference: 175-2021-2-PH2304

Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
Royal Papworth Hospital, Cambridge Biomedical Campus, Papworth Road, Cambridge
£24,907 to £30,615 pa

Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is the UK’s leading heart and lung hospital, treating around 50,000 patients each year. We are located in a new, purpose-built hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, with administrative services based in Huntingdon.

Founded as a tuberculosis colony in 1918, Royal Papworth Hospital has established an international reputation for excellence in research and innovation. Since carrying out the UK’s first successful heart transplant in 1979, the hospital now performs more heart, heart-lung and lung transplants each year than any other UK centre.

In addition to transplantation, Royal Papworth Hospital has the UK’s largest Respiratory Support and Sleep Centre (RSSC) and is one of five UK centres providing Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) to patients experiencing severe respiratory failure. It is also the only centre in the UK for a number of specialist services including Pulmonary Endarterectomy and Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty (BPA).

In October 2019, we became the first trust to be rated ‘outstanding’ in all five areas assessed by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) (safe, caring, effective, responsive, and well-led). We are committed to providing a positive, supportive experience for all of our staff.

Clinical Trials and Dispensary Pharmacy Technician

Band 5 - £24,907 - £30,615

15 hours per week

We are looking to recruit a registered Pharmacy Technician at Band 5 as a job share with the current post holder to ensure full time coverage for the pharmacy clinical trials service at Royal Papworth Hospital.  The role is 15 hours per week which could be worked as a split role with the successful applicant’s current role or as a standalone role if preferred. Ideally the successful applicant will provide cover for clinical trials on a Thursday and Friday.

The role involves working with the clinical trials pharmacist and other members of the research teams within the trust and taking responsibility for the safe and efficient conduct of IMP (Investigational Medicinal Product) studies including safe storage of trial drugs, accurate dispensing and accountability and managing stocks.

You will be required to work to the international guidance of ICH GCP (Good Clinical Practice), the European Clinical Trials Directive, as well as Trust and departmental SOPs. You should have excellent organisational and communication skills as it is essential that you are able to prioritise work and ensure all documentation is accurate and legible.

You will be required to liaise with multidisciplinary research teams, R&D and external trial sponsors or contract research organisations; therefore a professional attitude to the role is essential. You should also have basic skills in using programmes such as Microsoft Word and Excel.

You will also support the trials technician with responsibilities outside of trials but within pharmacy such as the management of the Post Trail Access Schemes and other Named Patient Programmes which will keep you in touch with patients and maintain a clinical focus to the role.

This post is offered as a permanent contract. Please discuss individual requirements prior to application.
