The Department of Clinical Chemistry comprises a team of staff who are committed to delivering an efficient, high quality diagnostic service. It is a busy, friendly department. We have an excellent reputation as a specialist laboratory and provide a comprehensive analytical biochemistry service along with regional newborn screening and metabolic biochemistry. Each section offers different experiences and the opportunity to learn many new skills.

We are looking for a Biomedical Scientist to join us as a rotational Band 5 BMS. Applications from individuals with HCPC Registration as well as those who are nearing the award of their degree are welcomed.

Participation in the out of hours rota in the Acute Section will be required. The Department also provides a capillary phlebotomy service and full training will be provided to enable the BMS to collect blood from patients.

The Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is currently one of five Trusts within the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw (SYB) Pathology Transformation Programme. The aim is to design a Pathology Service that provides all SYB patients and clinicians with equitable access to high-quality, innovative laboratory medicine solutions that will ensure the best clinical outcomes for patients. The service will also be efficient and sustainable, encourage research and development in collaboration with Academia and Industry to improve health and innovation in the region and provide rewarding jobs and career opportunities for all staff.

In line with other NHS Organisations in the Yorkshire and Humber Region a successful candidate appointed into a post within this Trust will be required to pay the DBS check fee (£45). This is customarily payable over 4 months as a salary deduction once employed by the Trust. If you receive a conditional offer letter, complete your DBS application and later withdraw from the recruitment process, an invoice will be raised via the Trust's finance department to recoup the outlay.
