Clinical advisor for cancer innovations wessex ahsn and wessex cancer

Job Reference: 188-MT0321-MEDICAL

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust
Southampton, Southampton
Dependant on experience / grade

We are looking to recruit a clinician with an interest in innovations in the earlier detection of cancer, and anticipate that this will appeal both to GPs and hospital doctors alike.

We are looking for someone who is clinically qualified and holds a GMC registration, with a specialist interest in cancer, and anticipate that this will appeal both to GPs and hospital doctors alike.

The NHS Long Term Plan (LTP) sets out ambitious aims for improving cancer care in the UK. The Wessex Cancer Alliance (WCA) is funded by NHSE to deliver against these targets with a focus on earlier diagnosis and improved five year survival.

These ambitious targets will be achieved by a strategy of rapid adoption of appropriately evidenced innovations.

The WCA is therefore partnering with Wessex Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) to recruit and co-employ a clinician to advise on and advance the strategy of accelerated innovation adoption across Hampshire, Dorset, the Isle of Wight and parts of Wiltshire.

You will be co-employed by two organisations (Wessex AHSN and Cancer Alliance) with one aim; to advance the strategy of accelerating the adoption of innovation in order to achieve the cancer targets in the LTP.

Wessex AHSN brings specialist knowledge on spread and adoption methodologies, with contacts across the other 14 AHSNs to ensure we build on what has gone before. Wessex Cancer Alliance brings the commitment to achieve world class cancer outcomes, and clinical networks across the region.

You will bring specialist cancer knowledge, change management experience and influence to drive the uptake of innovative pathways and technology where evidence suggests they will have impact on earlier cancer diagnosis and improved survival.

Working with analysts to prioritise the clinical and geographical opportunities, you will champion change, and influence across systems and networks to drive update of new pathways and new technologies across Wessex. A full-time project manager will also support this work, for example building business cases and implementation plans.

Success will mean more than reaching targets. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to drive regional change and save lives.

Strong networking and influencing skills, a good understanding of NHS systems covering primary care, secondary care and commissioning. You will have proven ability to influence without authority.

Office time will be split between Wessex AHSN offices and WCA offices. A significant amount of travel to regional NHS sites is also anticipated.

Wessex AHSN is based in Southampton Science Park in Chilworth, in a bright modern office. Easily accessible from the M3, M27 and Southampton Parkway train station, the location offers free parking with a café on site and 27 acres of the Science Park site are designated a protected conservation area.

WCA offices are at Oakley Road in Southampton.

This is an interesting and varied role in a fast moving environment.

Wessex AHSN is keen to ensure that staff have a successful work/ life balance and offers flexible working dependant on the requirements of the role.

Wessex AHSN is a company limited by guarantee, owned by the NHS and hosted by University Hospital Southampton.
