Staff Nurse (RMN)

Salary:£24,907 - £30,615 per annum pro rata

We are searching for motivated and innovative nurses for our Moorland View Adult Inpatient Team based at North Devon District Hospital, Barnstaple. Join us and you will play a central role in a committed and dynamic team that has people’s recovery at its heart and one that has been highly commended in the Positive Practice awards

This is an incredible opportunity to establish a career with Devon Partnership NHS Trust, one of the country’s most exciting and progressive mental health and learning disability trusts. You will be well supported and encouraged to develop your clinical competencies within a stimulating learning environment.You will become part of a multi-disciplinary team, using your skills and experience to help define and deliver a package of care to people on our mixed gender wards that helps them on their road to recovery. We believe that with our help, people can improve their mental health, to recover independence and return to their local community.

This role is on a ward that operates on a 24/7 shift basis. You will qualify for unsocial enhancements in addition to your basic pay. The role is currently at Band 5, but there is a strong potential for the opportunity of a promotion to Band 6 in the future.

Whether you’re a newly qualified nurse who wants to develop or an experienced mental health professional who is looking for a new challenge, are retired or want to return to practice, we welcome your application.

We encourage you to learn, develop and grow. For newly qualified staff we have a well-established preceptorship programme which links into our wider multidisciplinary CPD programme. Those looking to gain further experience will be supported in maintaining professional links, through involvement in regular profession-specific CPD opportunities.

About you

You will have excellent communication skills, a commitment to working flexibly and be happy to participate in the internal 24 hours, 7 day a week rota to meet the needs of people who use our services.

We expect you to be able to demonstrate how you have worked effectively in a multi-disciplinary team setting. You will need to demonstrate your commitment to personal development and how you have supported a team to succeed.

We welcome independent and critical thinkers. You will be encouraged and supported to use quality improvement methodology to help improve the services we offer. The Trust’s Quality Improvement Academy is on hand to provide access to expert advice and support in your work area that will help you to improve the work you do every day.


Moorland View is one of two wards at North Devon District Hospital where we provide assessment, care and treatment for adults with mental health needs.

Our team at Moorland View includes a Consultant Psychiatrist, Ward Manager, Registered Mental Health Nurses, Support Workers, Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Junior Doctors, Admin Team, Peer Support Worker, a House Keeping Team, Trainee Assistant Practitioner, Discharge Facilitators and Medical Secretaries. We have a strong work ethic and pride ourselves on delivering person-centred care. We treat everyone – staff, stakeholders, colleagues and the people we care for and their families – with respect and dignity.

As a new member of staff to Devon Partnership NHS Trust you will be required to attend a full induction programme at the beginning of your employment. The content and length of this programme will depend on your new job role and where you will be working.
