Senior Fellow, Paediatric Gastroenterology (Registrar Grade)

Applications are invited for a Senior Fellow in PAEDIATRIC GASTROENTEROLOGY commencing in August/September 2020 for 12 months. The position has become available because of a vacancy on the registrar rota.

The main remit of the post is the provision of 9 – 5 middle grade cover for the paediatric gastroenterology unit at Nottingham Children’s Hospital. The post holder will be well supported by consultants who are on an attending week rota, and in turn will support the wider MDT. Clinic duties also include running 1 gastroenterology clinics per week alongside a consultant. The post holder is not expected to take part on the general paediatric middle grade “on call” rota, or expected to work out of hours or at weekends. Daily working for this post is described in the attached job description along with details of the paediatric gastroenterology unit at Nottingham Children’s Hospital. The post by virtue of replacing the NTN equivalent post affords plenty of opportunity for training in various aspects of the specialty including paediatric endoscopy. Therefore this post can be tailored to the training requirements of the post holder who may be at an early stage in their career or post CCT but wanting to consolidate skills in aspects of the specialty such as complex nutrition or paediatric endoscopy prior to taking up a consultant post.

The post holder would be expected to support, teach and train junior colleagues and medical students when present, both in formal teaching sessions and less formally. Nottingham Children’s Hospital is a busy teaching hospital. There is a busy paediatric emergency department that is separately staffed but led by paediatric emergency consultants who are part of the Acute Paediatric Services. There is a general paediatric acute assessment unit through which all admissions come in and where GP referrals are seen. There is a hot week consultant and registrar system with a separate registrar emergency bleep.
