If so then this may be the opportunity for you - to support the implementation of a new service and to make a positive difference to Veterans who require specialist mental health services and wider support.

LYPFT are very proud to be the Lead Provider for the newly commissioned Veterans Mental Health High Intensity Service in the North of England, working in a Provider Collaborative which includes Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne & Wear NHS Foundation Trust, Combat Stress and Walking with the Wounded. The service has been newly commissioned to provide support in the following areas:

  1. Crisis Care
  2. Therapeutic inpatient support
  3. Care co-ordination across organisations able to support the veteran
  4. Support and care of family members/carers of the veteran

The HIS team will operate across the whole of the North of England and will be a multi-disciplinary team (Mental Health Practitioners, Psychology, Liaison & Support Officers) who will provide a liaison, advice and support service for local mental health teams, the Veteran and their family. The team will be supported by a clinician help line, operated by Combat Stress and the model will involve ensuring Veterans are empowered to access services for health and social support via the Liaison & Support Officers (provided by Walking with the Wounded).

We need a highly motivated mental health practitioner (RMN/occupational therapist/social worker) to join this new service; working predominantly in either the North East or North West location. You will have post registration experience and be able to demonstrate an understanding of the needs of military veterans’ suffering combat related mental health problems in order to support local services to provide veteran-centric care for veterans and their families with the aim of supporting them to stabilise, treat and integrate veterans who have complex health needs.

You will be required to support care coordination across organisations, utilising the CPA framework, for the delivery of care; maintaining a focus on recovery and adopting a person-centred approach. You will have excellent communication, organisational and clinical reasoning skills, as well as the ability to travel across the geographical region of the service.

You will provide assessments, risk management and interventions for veterans, working with local services to support them to deliver effective care for veterans experiencing crisis and receiving inpatient care. You will also work closely with our Liaison & Support Officers (Walking with the Wounded) to ensure that health and social needs of the veteran and their family are met and promote the active involvement of veterans and carers in all aspects of their care delivery.

You will contribute to the delivery of a training programme aiming to increase awareness and skill across a range or organisations who may provide care for veterans.

You will receive training, support and supervision from a senior practitioner, with a strong emphasis on personal and professional development.
