LOCUM CONSULTANT ANAESTHETIST

WITH AN INTEREST IN PAEDIATRIC ANAESTHESIA

Applications are invited for a locum consultant anaesthetists with an interest in paediatric anaesthesia. The position attracts a total of 10 PAs, has a mix of paediatric and general adult sessions and the post-holder will be on the on-call rota for paediatric and neonatal anaesthesia.

St George’s Hospital is a university teaching hospital providing specialist children’s services with over 5000 paediatric general anaesthesia episodes per annum. Children’s surgical specialties available at St George’s include neonatal and general surgery, urology, orthopaedics, plastics, maxillo-facial, ENT, ophthalmology and neurosurgery. There are also a number of medical patients requiring anaesthesia for diagnostic and interventional radiology, endoscopy and oncological related procedures. The Paediatric Intensive Care and Neonatal Intensive Care units have both been recently expanded. As the South-West London adult Major trauma centre St George’s has also seen an increase in the numbers of paediatric trauma cases presenting to the emergency department.

The successful applicant would join a group of 13 paediatric anaesthetists providing on-call cover on a 1 in 12 basis. There are both fixed and flexible sessions within the job-plan and with proposed changes to our provision of emergency care for children, we would expect the successful candidate to be flexible regarding cross-cover within the department.

Applicants should have the FRCA or an equivalent qualification and have suitable experience in paediatric and neonatal anaesthesia. They should be on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of their expected CCT date at the time of application. Applicants unable to work full time for personal reasons will be eligible to be considered for the post.
