Ashford & St Peter’s NHS Foundation Trust

Consultant in Interventional Cardiology
Substantive
11PAs plus On call

Ashford & St Peter’s NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest acute Trusts in the South East with a well established cardiology department. The Trust provides all general Cardiology services, including subspecialty interests in PCI (including 24/7 primary PCI), simple and complex pacing (including cardiac resynchronization therapy and ICD implantation), transthoracic, transoesophageal and stress echocardiography, cardiac MRI, electrophysiology and ablations. In conjunction with radiology we also offer CT coronary angiography. Other interests, beyond PCI, would therefore be welcomed in an applicant. We have a vibrant research department and welcome on-going interest in research.

This post offers the successful applicant the chance to work in high-achieving, forward-looking Trust committed to maintaining local provision of high quality services while living in an attractive environment with a good quality of family and personal life.

This is a substantive contract in interventional and general cardiology in the first instance to join a strong team of eight full time, two visiting Cardiologists and 4 specialist nurses. The post has arisen due to an increase in demand of the general and interventional cardiology service and the post now requires someone with general and interventional skills. The team will consist of five interventionalists, a general cardiologist with an interest in imaging, heart failure and devices, a non-invasive cardiologist focusing on imaging and two Electrophysiologists.

The applicant will need the skills to cover all inpatient care on our acute cardiac unit and medical assessment unit and undertaking both general cardiology and stable chest pain clinics. It will be expected that you will be able to perform diagnostic angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention including primary angioplasty. Experience in simple pacemaker implantation would be desirable.

Ashford & St Peter’s Hospital is the largest provider of cardiac services to the Surrey population. The Trust performs emergency and elective angiography, coronary intervention and pacing for Epsom Hospital. The successful candidate will be expected to support the on call for coronary intervention on a 1:5 basis.

Candidates must be listed on the GMC’s Specialist Register and hold a certificate of Specialist Training (CCT/CCST) in Cardiology and ideally General Internal Medicine or be within 6 months of CCT/CCST at the date of interview.

Please contact either: Matthew Goodwin, Service Manager, telephone: 01932 722540, or Dr Sumeet Sharma via his secretary, telephone: 01932 722230.
