Team Leader/ Quality Lead in Bacteriology

Applications are invited from HCPC registered experienced Specialist Biomedical Scientists with an MSc, FIBMS or equivalent. The ideal candidate must have a wide experience of all aspects of Bacteriology diagnostic testing as well as service delivery experience and have excellent interpersonal skills. Additional qualities that the department seek are a strong understanding of UKAS and quality within a clinical laboratory, a drive and determination to improve laboratory processes

We are looking for an enthusiastic, energetic ,friendly and well-motivated individual who has a strong team ethic as well as good performance as an individual.

The Role:

Working under the leadership of a Deputy Service Manager, the Team Leader role is critical to the successful operations of the service. The role encompasses management of a team within a particular area of the service, which will require specialist knowledge pertaining to that area. In particular the role is designed to fulfill the following functions:

  • As a Quality Lead, to provide appropriate advice on quality aspects and its implementation to the Quality Manager / General Manager, in conjunction with the quality lead in the Virology department.
  • To organize the day to day operational management of a section of the laboratory ensuring optimal performance of equipment, materials and staff.
  • To provide professional leadership and line management for the staff of the section, to include work planning and rosters, training and mentoring, performance management and other HR issues
  • As a Team Leader, to provide appropriate specialist advice on technical and scientific issues within the post holder’s area of expertise to the Deputy Service Manager / General Manager
  • As part of a team to help deliver additional service related roles within the areas of Training, Quality, Health & Safety and Service Improvement.

The Clinical Microbiology Department:

The Clinical Microbiology laboratory at Leicester is a comprehensive medical microbiology service handling around 700,000 microbiology and virology samples per year. We are active in supporting infection prevention, control & diagnostics of a wide range of infections. The laboratory is UKAS accredited. Teaching, training, audit, research and development are actively encouraged and pursued within the department. The laboratory is approved by the IBMS and fully supports continuing professional development.
