Band 4 Pharmacy Technician –Infectious Diseases

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, patient focused technician to develop their skills by providing Pharmacy Services to HIV positive and Infectious Diseases patients.

You will predominantly be based in The Jarvis Pharmacy Satellite which is located in the Jarvis Clinic and provides a full pharmaceutical service to 1350+ HIV positive patients and other patients seen in the Infectious Diseases Clinic.

The Jarvis Pharmacy team are a small and friendly team who are considered an integral part of the wider Infectious Diseases team. You will work with Specialist Pharmacists, a Senior Technician, another Band 4 technician and Medicines Management Assistants to provide this specialised pharmacy service.

The majority of dispensing is out-sourced to an external pharmacy provider and home delivery provider. Part of your role will be to ensure that prescriptions reach them promptly so that patients receive their medicines in a timely manner at their clinic appointment.


We do a small amount of dispensing in the satellite and if not already, you will receive training to qualify as a checking technician. You will also receive training in handing out medication, counselling and completing drug histories for stable patients because the role will involve significant patient contact. An awareness of the importance of patient confidentiality is essential.

As part of ensuring a seamless service, we act as the primary contact for patients with queries or concerns regarding their supply. The successful applicant will need good communication skills including a good telephone manner as you will speak to patients and other members of the clinical team on a daily basis. The ability to communicate effectively with different people from varying professional and lay backgrounds is key to the success of this role as you will also have contact with clinicians, specialist nurses and other clinic staff on a daily basis.
