We are looking for Health Care Support Workers to join our Hospice at Home team. The team takes the specialist skills of Farleigh Hospice into an individual’s home, enabling people to have more choice over their place of care. They offer time limited interventions at times of crisis in order to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions, alleviate carer fatigue, facilitate discharge from hospice/hospital and support those patients who wish to die at home. 


 You will be required to; 


Ensure that the patient is cared for in a safe and comfortable environment 


Provide all aspects of a patient’s personal hygiene and toileting needs 


Assist with feeding/drinking when necessary 


Ensure safe moving/turning/mobilisation of the patient depending on what is most appropriate. Be confident in the use of equipment. 


Assist with and be aware of any actions that may be necessary at the time of a patient’s death. 


Be flexible and creative in the care of the patient and family 


Involve and enable the family and friends to continue caring for the patient and support them as appropriate. 


Provide emotional support and communicate effectively with patients and their family/friend 


Work unsupervised in the patient’s home if necessary.

Am I the right person for this role?

  • NVQ level 2 or higher qualification is desirable but not essential
  • Experience in care is desirable but not essential
  • Experience of working with people and handling difficult situations
  • Have an understanding of the hospice/palliative care philosophy
  • Have an awareness of own feelings towards death and dying
  • Have the ability to work without direct supervision
  • Have experience of effective team working
  • Have experience in windows base software and the use of email
  • Able to work a variable shift pattern between the hours of 08.00 and 22.00 over 7 days.
  • Have a full driving license and have access to a car
