We have a part-time 34 hours week vacancy for a Specialist Mental Health Nurse Practitioner working within our 8 sites around Chesterfield with Royal Primary Care. Our sites are Ashgate, Grangewood, Whittington, Staveley, Inkersall and Clay Cross area.

A Specialist Mental Health Practitioner at Royal Primary Care will be an experienced, registered Mental Health Nurse with a qualification in Non-Medical prescribing. They will provide cover for the practice’s patients who have stress, emotional problems, anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions that present in primary care.

The Specialist Mental Health Practitioner (SMHP) will act autonomously within their professional scope of practice providing care for patients face to face, telephone consultations and home visits.

The post holder will uphold the RPC C.A.R.E. values of Compassion, Achievement, Relationships and Environment and will be an integrated member of the GP practice team providing specialist mental health advice, carrying out annual reviews for patients on the practices SMI register and be responsible for the development and implementation of Mental Health care plans.

The Specialist Mental Health Practitioner will need to prioritise and triage the needs of patients accordingly, making any necessary referrals for investigations in the appropriate manner. The purpose of the role is to increase the capacity and quality of general practice psychological care, rather than supplement or replace secondary care services.

The post holder will use skill, knowledge and competencies as a qualified Specialist Mental Health Practitioner in order to be responsible and accountable for managing patient caseloads for treatments, referral, admission and discharging patients as appropriate.
