An exciting opportunity has arisen for full time Band 3 (Apprentice) Healthcare Assistants within the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Miranda House, Hull

PICUis a 10 bedded, mixed sex, purpose build Psychiatric Intensive Care service. Psychiatric Intensive Care is offered to service users who are compulsorily detained and require treatment in low secure conditions during an acutely disturbed phase of serious mental disorder. Within PICU all aspects of health, including physical health, social care needs and risk are jointly assessed by the multi-disciplinary team. Treatment and care is then planned with the service user within the Care Programme Approach. Risk assessment and management plans are an integral part of this. As well as the nursing and medical professions we also have a psychologist, occupational therapist, a visiting pharmacist and chaplaincy intervention. The PICU is a member of the National Association of Psychiatric Intensive and Low secure Units (NAPICU).

We also work in close partnership, and pro-actively with carers, family members, community teams and other outside agencies, to ensure continuity of care, implementing both psychological and psychosocial interventions.

As a Healthcare Assistant you will work alongside the MDT whichsupports individuals to develop and maintain their skills, promoting recovery and independence using a person centered approach.

The successful candidate must be committed, conscientious and motivated and have an empathetic and understanding approach to the people who access our service.Theyneed to have an appropriate level of self-awareness,risk assessment,the ability to use their initiative when working with often complex and challenging situations, as well as be a keen team player who is able to ‘think outside of the box’.

Experience of mental health services would be preferred, but there will be the opportunity for further development and training as well as supervision, guidance and support.Reflective practice is also regularly undertaken on the Unit.

Long shift working including nights and weekend working as required will be part of this job role.
