Senior Healthcare Technical Officer

Job Reference: 918-HX5556

Employer:
NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT)
Department:
Stem Cells Leeds-Service
Location:
Barnsley Blood Centre (Initially Leeds)
Salary:
£21,892 to £24,157 pa

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is an integral part of the NHS. Operating a network of centres across England and North Wales, we collect around 2 million units of blood and tissues a year, converting them into safe and effective blood components, blood and tissue products for use in the treatments of patients.

Our department selects, processes and issues peripheral stem cells and bone marrow for patients undergoing haemopoietic stem cell transplantation. Our partnership with transplant programmes provides opportunities for applied research and development. In addition, innovative cellular and molecular therapies are starting to transform the way we treat cancer and other life-threatening conditions. Our department will be involved in other cellular and molecular therapies once we move to Barnsley.

We’re looking for a BTEC/HNC in a Science or other relevant subject, or the NHSBT foundation degree or equivalent. Ideally, you’ll also have a working knowledge of basic IT packages and some experience of working unsupervised in a laboratory environment. As a good team player, you’ll be capable of motivating both yourself and others as you tackle a wide variety of tasks.

We currently operate from 2 sites in Leeds and Sheffield, but are building a new facility near Barnsley (Unit D, Capitol Way, Dodworth, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, S75 3FG). The successful candidate will therefore work initially in Leeds, before moving to the new site in Barnsley (moving date to be confirmed).

The normal working hours for this role are 37.5 hours/week, 08:30 - 16:30, Monday to Friday.

For informal enquiries please contact Dr Mbithe Mutunga via email at: mbithe.mutunga@nhsbt.nhs.uk.

This vacancy will close at 23:49 on Sunday 14th June 2020.

Interview dates are to be confirmed.
