Volunteer Retail Assistant

We have six busy charity shops across Barking, Dagenham, Hornchurch and Upminster. Each shop relies onteams of volunteers to keep us trading. Our Retail Assistants work with the shop manager to prepare goods for sale, create window dressings and displays, assist customers, operate the cash register and process Gift Aid donations, as well as carrying out general housekeeping and cleaning.

What skills do we need?

We are looking for people who are friendly, polite and respectful and enjoy engaging with our customers. You will need to be punctual and reliable andwilling tolearn new skills and get involved. You also need to be able to work individually as well as part of a team. Experience of shop work is beneficial, but not essential, as training is provided.

How much time will it take?

We operate on a flexible shift basis, with a shift usually lasting about 4 hours, or as agreed with the Shop Manager. At least one shift per week is ideal to keep your skills up to date and to assist with the running of the shop.

What are the benefits?

You will gain first-hand experience of working in a retail environment and understanding sales processes. You will also learn more about the charity sector. In addition, you will have an opportunity to build customer service and communication skills.
