We have an exciting opportunity for a registered Speech and Language Therapist to join our team working intensively and creatively to make a real difference to the lives of Adults with a Learning Disability and/or Autism.

The Intensive Support Team is a specialist, multi-disciplinary service that work with adults with learning disabilities/autism and mental health problems and/or challenging behaviour.

We work intensely for short periods of time with people to support them at times of crisis and prevent placement breakdown or hospital admission.

We promote person-centred practice and work creatively to improve people’s quality of life, and wrap around the person’s care team to help service users and their carers when they need it the most.

The job involves working with individuals, families, paid carers and staff groups in a range of settings when, due to the level of risk involved, intensity of input required or specialist skills needed, they cannot be supported by mainstream services.

This work is mainly community-based with some in-reach work into hospitals when required.

The post offers a opportunity for you to develop as a Speech and Language Therapist with training, supervision and an ethos promoting innovative practice; with a focus on ‘real life change’ for our service users.

You will work autonomously but have clinical support from the team’s clinical lead and wider SLT service. You will be working closely with another band 6 SLT in the team and a band 4 SLTA. We work as a fully integrated, multi-disciplinary team and take a ‘whole team approach’ to assessment, formulation and treatment.

IST operates 8am-8pm, Monday to Friday and 9-5, Saturday-Sunday, on a rota basis; with reduced staffing at the weekends and on evening shifts. This rota also includes an on-call provision.

There is an expectation to work with those service users who have a diagnosis of ASD in the absence of LD, alongside our colleagues in Adult Mental Health and those aged 16+ who are transitioning into adult services.

DBS Check
The cost of undertaking a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) disclosure will be met by the individual. The Trust will meet the initial costs of the disclosure which will be deducted from your first month’s salary. The current price of a standard check is £23 and an enhanced check is £40.

We are obliged to check employment history for at least the past 3 years for successful candidates. Please ensure that the referees you provide us cover at least the past 3 years of your employment/training.
