Senior Clinical Pharmacist

Job Reference: 188-OTH1555

Employer:
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust
Department:
Pharmacy
Location:
Southampton General Hospital, Southampton
Salary:
£38,890 - £44,503 per annum

We are looking for a Senior Clinical Pharmacist at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). This is an exciting opportunity where you will be solving clinical problems.

In this role, you’ll get the satisfaction of having your own varied wards for clinical pharmacy. Yet at UHS we offer you so much more! Clinical problem solving is our bread and butter, but we go above and beyond a ward role.

ABOUT THE TEAM

Our service is a recognised centre of excellence, and unique to southern England. Our working environment means there’ll always be senior clinical pharmacists on hand when you need them. We are well known for being a friendly supportive team, and we’ll support your development through mentoring and training designed to meet your individual needs.

All our pharmacists have short and long-term projects on the go, including training and supervising pre-registration pharmacists, practice research, and web publications. It’s a great way to build your CV with higher level experience in a way that is not available to many other band 7 pharmacists. Our award-winning NHS website is used throughout the UK and 94% of pharmacists say it improves their clinical decisions.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

In the Medicines Advice team you’ll be helping a wide range of healthcare professionals to manage complex clinical situations and get the fulfilment that they have actively sought out your help. It’s gratifying that we get lots of feedback from consultants, GPs, pharmacists and patients that our clinical advice is extremely valued and improves patient care.

We also counsel and advise patients after they’ve left our hospital via the Trust’s medicines helpline. This is a busy and professionally satisfying role that gives you patient contact throughout the day, even when you aren’t on your wards.

You’ll be advising on (and therefore learning about) a complete range of clinical specialities from both primary and secondary care, and the clinical skills you’ll be honing are completely transferable to other areas of pharmacy. Our pharmacists are regularly complimented on their advanced level clinical skills, so if after your time with us you decide to move to another area of clinical pharmacy then you’ll already be a cut above the rest. Whilst clinical problem solving is hugely important, we will equip you with many more skills to become a well rounded and confident pharmacist.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

If you’re a band 6 pharmacist who is looking for the next challenge, or a band 7 pharmacist who wants to take their clinical skills to the next level, then this is the role for you.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

As one of the largest acute teaching Trust’s in England, we can offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. We believe you deserve the best possible surroundings in which to do your job and we want to support you in doing your job to the best of your ability.

As a Trust, we support flexible working and will consider requests taking into account the needs of the service. You’ll have an opportunity to discuss this at interview. Our LiveWell and inspire programme offers opportunities, support and advice, including smoking cessation services, exercise and activity classes, and support for mental health.

UHS employees are able to access a huge range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata) on appointment, can access on-site nursery facilities (subject to availability), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

ABOUT OUR TRUST AND SOUTHAMPTON

UHS is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and only an hour on the train from central London. The New Forest National Park and the beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than those in London, 13 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted and 13 nearby green spaces to enjoy.

Interviews will be held on Monday, 22 June 2020.
