Our physical healthcare services include intermediate care services in Hammersmith & Fulham as part of the Community Independence Service partnership.

Our national, specialist and forensic services include:

  • Medium secure services on the St Bernard’s Hospital site in Ealing
  • Services for people with complex and severe personality disorder at the Cassel Hospital in Richmond
  • High secure services at Broadmoor Hospital in Berkshire

New Psychology opportunities at West London NHS Trust


We are excited that we have recently been awarded a substantial new investment following a successful NHSE bid. West London NHS Trust NHSE funding bid was singled out as the ‘most comprehensive’ and, as a result, we have been given new funding to develop new ‘trailblazing’ services within mental health services in line with the NHSE long term plan. The NHSE long term plan aims to develop ‘new and integrated models of primary and community mental health care [which] will support adults and older adults with a range of mental health presentations. These services will aim to break down the current barriers in accessing services, align services with the individual’s primary care network and deliver integrated, personalised, place-based and well-coordinated care. Alongside this, other successful bids have also been made to enable our CRHT teams to be fully 24/7 compliant and to extend EIP services across the age range.

The successful candidates will join a large psychology department working across Inpatient services, Crisis Teams, Early Intervention, Recovery, Rehabilitation, Primary Care Mental Health, Eating Disorders and many others. The service has an active CPD programme for psychologists and psychology is involved in planning regarding transformation, service development and delivery. The teams hold psychological formulation and psychological interventions as central to their pathways and the post holders will be expected to contribute to the development and delivery of treatment protocols within these teams. The trust is committed to developing excellent services and you will be part of a team excited by, and striving for, optimal recovery outcomes for each individual who uses our services.

This new development entails re-modelling services with a renewed focus on working with people with a range of mental health problems and ensuring that their care is accessible and sits at the core of their communities. Services will be modernised to shift to whole person, whole population health approaches. This means that we will be looking at all the community resources available including health, social care, VCSE organisations and local communities and considering resources to support wellbeing outside of mental health services alone.

An integral part of these service developments we have created a number of new posts across our Mental Health Integrated Network Teams (MINT), community rehabilitation and inpatient teams. As psychological therapies are core to the NHS long term plan, this is reflected in the staffing cohort outlined in our successful bid. The new teams therefore will aim to ensure timely access to psychological, occupational and social interventions aimed to enable people to utilise community facilities as best as possible and remain within their primary care network.

In order to ensure that these new developments are fully supported, we have re-designed our job plans for psychology staff to include 0.2wte (pro rata for part time staff) to engage in research, service development or CPD relevant to the service in which they will be working.
