Consultant Surgeon (ESAU)

Job Reference: 360-C-56

Employer:
West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust
Department:
General Surgery
Location:
Watford
Salary:
£79,860 - £107,668

As an employer of nearly 5,000 staff, West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust is the place to be. Having have been shortlisted over the last three years for 18 national people related awards and most recently winning the Nursing Times award for Best UK Employer 2019 we are immensely proud of our achievements.

We have lots to shout about! Despite having lots of challenges, we’ve worked really hard to make West Herts a great place to work. The good news is we’re really starting to see the results of our efforts. We’re one of the few NHS organisations across the UK to have achieved a phenomenal 0% nurse vacancy rate within our adult inpatient areas. We have also recently secured over £450m capital funding to transform our sites and give our patients and colleagues within #teamwestherts the working environment they deserve.

Permanent Emergency Consultant Surgeon

Applications are invited for a Consultant Surgeon with an interest in Emergency Surgery. The applicant must be on the specialist register (or be within three months of their CCT) with a proven major interest in Emergency Surgery. The successful applicant will be part of a team of four emergency surgeons helping to provide a comprehensive Emergency Surgical Service.

This position is based at the Watford site where major elective surgery takes place. Clinical commitments follow a four-week rolling rota. One week is based in our Emergency Surgical Assessment Unit. The second week is based in theatres where the consultant is involved with the CEPOD list. A third week allows for elective surgical work and SPA time allowing for the successful candidate to maintain skills in a chosen sub-speciality. Week four is entirely free ensuring nine days of continued off duty. There are no night on-calls.

West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust was formed by the amalgamation of Watford, St Albans & Hemel Hempstead Hospitals Trust on 1 April 2000. The Trust provides health services for approximately 650,000 people who live in the five local authority areas of Dacorum, Hertsmere, St Albans, Three Rivers and Watford. Overall the population is relatively affluent, but there are pockets of health inequalities, particularly among people living in the South West of the county.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship

Applications from job seekers who require current Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the current Resident Labour Market Test which will be in place until the end of December 2020. UK Visas and Immigration requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.

From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, have had to present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) are also subject to this requirement.
