An opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Medical Secretary to join our secretarial team within the Psychology in Health Care service. This post is to cover maternity leave for a fixed term ending on 31 December 2020.

You will work for the clinical team and be part of a wider administration team which consists of 1 x operational manager, 1 x office manager and 11 secretaries. The Psychology in Health Care Service has bases across the city (Royal Victoria Infirmary, Freeman Road Hospital, Arthurs Hill Clinic, Molineux Street Health Centre and Elswick Health Centre). You will be based at Royal Victoria Infirmary.

You will provide comprehensive support to the team which involves communicating with patients regarding appointments and admissions and support the service lead with waiting list management. You will often be first point of contact for the team, dealing with distressed and anxious people.

This is a friendly fast-paced working environment. Good organization, ICT, numerical and literacy skills as well as a typing qualification (eg; RSA or equivalent experience) and attention to detail are essential. Experience/knowledge of producing a wide range of documents with a high level of proof reading and presentation of information are required, as well as excellent communication skills for coordinating and organising the commitments of clinical staff.

Previous experience within a hospital environment or a psychological service using PAS/eRecord would be advantageous. You must be able to demonstrate a sensitive approach to the client group and have experience of face to face and telephone contact with the public.

Whilst the role can be challenging at times it is also be very rewarding, with patient involvement giving additional job satisfaction.
