Senior Genetic technologist (Cytogenetics) – Band 6 (Substantive)

Applications are invited from senior genetic technologists to join the SIHMDS Laboratory within North West London Pathology at Hammersmith Hospital, hosted by Imperial NHS Trust.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated genetic technologist with extensive experience of Cancer Cytogenetics to work in the cytogenetics section of the laboratory. You will join a hard working, friendly and enthusiastic team. The successful applicant will be actively involved in ensuring the high standard of quality is maintained within cytogenetics and throughout SIHMDS. Experience and understanding of UKAS (ISO 15189) accreditation is essential for this post.

Applicants must have a biological science degree and be able to demonstrate a keen interest in service development and diagnostic genetics.

Applicant must be highly competent and experienced with bone marrow karyotyping and FISH analysis/ reporting of haematological malignancies including FFPE referrals. An analysis and interpretation test for both karyotyping and FISH will form part of the interview process. In addition they must have extensive experience of laboratory processes within cytogenetics as they will be responsible for the day to day management and maintenance for this area of service in collaboration with the technical lead.

Good communication, team working and supervisory skills are essential to train, guide and manage the junior technical staff.

The post holder will also have the opportunity to train in molecular diagnostics. Staff within the cytogenetics section train within the Molecular Diagnostics section and currently participate in BCR-ABL1 reporting and will also receive training in other areas of the service.
