This post is open to a midwife sonographer/ radiographer sonographer. The post holder will provide effective clinical management in ultrasound and be proficient in first, second and third trimester ultrasound screening.

Ultrasound is a specialist area where specific skills are required from the sonographers that work there. We have a team of midwife and radiographer sonographers who all work to national and Fetal Medicine Foundation guidelines regarding screening. Practice evolves as new techniques are identified to improve fetal well-being and the management of high risk pregnancies. We provide safe and evidence based care where professional development is a necessity.

As a sonographer you will work autonomously in both antenatal ultrasound and the Maternity Assessment Unit, reporting and managing abnormality as per guidelines. You will work collaboratively with your midwifery, sonography and medical colleagues; we have a close working relationship with the Fetal Medicine Department. You will recognise and understand organisational change and help to make improvement happen. Skill acquisition is encouraged i.e. Doppler ultrasound, trans-vaginal scanning, NT assessment and fetal echo. Facilitating ultrasound training for medical staff and students undertaking the PG Certificate in obstetric ultrasound will be part of your role.

Applicants should have:

  • Registered midwifery qualification
  • Current NMC registration or State registration with Health Professions Council or equivalent
  • PGC / PGDip in obstetric ultrasound and or medical ultrasound plus previous ultrasound experience
  • Evidence of continued professional and personal development with competencies as necessary for the role
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and competence
  • Audit and/or research experience
  • Good IT skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Has an understanding of or experience with safeguarding
