The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Children’s registered nurse to join our team as Gastroenterology Nurse Specialist.

We are looking to recruit an experienced band 7 Paediatric Gastroenterology Specialist Nurse to provide in-patient as well as outpatient Gastroenterology care at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. We are seeking an individual who shares our vision and values and who will provide expertise both inpatient and outpatient care.

Renowned for our excellence in Paediatric care the Chelsea & Westminster Children and Young People Directorate forms part of the North West London Paediatric Network and has consistently grown over the past few years. We are equipped with the latest technology providing advanced care for our children and Young People requiring both medical and surgical care. Our recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) feedback 2017 rated our service as ‘excellent ‘in care.

The Paed Gastro service at C&W covers a variety of conditions including:

  • Paediatric IBD
  • Intestinal Rehabilitation
  • GI motility
  • Nutritional problem

Within our Paediatric IBD care team, we see patients from ambulatory care for infusions, assessments and bowel clear out & preparation for colonoscopy procedures. PN can be administered at home and part of the inpatient stay for patients planning for HPN will include thorough and intense training with parents/carers through a multidisciplinary approach-- to take on the role of setting up the PN as well as care (& emergency care) of the CVAD. This is a fabulous opportunity to be an integral part of the amazing nursing services we offer our patients and to make real difference to the lives of our patients, carers and colleagues.

You will be working with complex care patients in their own homes within the community, ensuring nurses and carers are trained and competent to deliver care required. You will be expected to assess risk and needs of patient in order to devise an individual holistic detailed care plan and these are regularly evaluated based nursing care in accordance with local contracts.

In meeting the needing of the local population, we review the children in a number of different settings which include both in-house POPD as well as outreach clinics (eg-during transition to adults as well as the external network meetings for our patients) as well as the wards and day case areas

What We Need From You:

  • Current Children’s Nursing registration to practice
  • Previous knowledge and experience working in similar role or in complex Children’s care settings
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to be able to train clinical and non-clinical staff
  • Participate in the on-call rota and multi-disciplinary team meetings.
  • Be a member of regional/local team and attend and contribute to team meetings
  • Respond to and investigate clinical complaints, in line with policy and risk management
  • Maintain clinical updates and evidence of Post registration Education Portfolio
  • You will contribute to the on-going implementation of the Trusts nursing and corporate objectives, developing the service and nursing roles to meet the evolving needs of patients and their families.
