An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified senior nurse to join the existing team within the Colposcopy service of the Northern Gynaecological Oncology Centre at Gateshead on a full-time and permanent basis. The post that we are seeking to recruit to is a newly created Band 7 role with dual clinical and managerial responsibilities.

The post holder will work closely with the Matron, Service Line Manager, Lead Colposcopist and Hospital Based Programme Co-ordinator for Cervical Screening as well as the wider MDT. They will provide direct clinical care and expert specialist knowledge to patients with Gynaecological / Gynaecological Oncological conditions as well as supporting and facilitating the pathway for patients diagnosed with gynaecological cancers. An integral part of the role involves working in collaboration with primary care teams and colleagues within and external to NGOC. In addition to the direct clinical care associated with the role the post holder will be required to provide senior nursing leadership to the Colposcopy service and assume managerial responsibilities for the department.

The successful applicant will need to meet the following criteria:

  • RN 1st level current NMC Registration

  • Accredited Nurse Colposcopist (British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology)

  • Experience of working as an independent Nurse Colposcopist undertaking diagnostics

  • Substantial competence/experience in Gynaecology / Oncology nursing

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience at band 6 within a women’s’ health setting and/or clinic setting

  • Educated to degree level in a health related subject and ideally be working towards Masters level study

  • Experience of effectively managing people and resources.

  • Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work as an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team

  • Leadership and management experience within a team

  • Knowledge of national standards within the field of Colposcopy

  • Experience of change management and audit skills

  • Evidence of ongoing CPD in specialist area of practice

  • Flexibility to respond to the changing needs of the service
