Split post (0.5 wte in Greenwich IAPT and 0.5 wte in Memory Service)

Permanent / Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

Based in Eltham, Greenwich, South East London

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a full time Clinical Psychologist who will work as a split post both at Greenwich Time to Talk (IAPT) and the Memory Service in Greenwich.

Greenwich Time To Talk (GTTT) is a primary care and Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service. You will develop the capacity of the service to include working with Older Adults. As a highly motivated clinician, with strong CBT skills and experience working with older adults, you will be our 'Older Adult Champion'. We will maintain strong links with our colleagues in the Greenwich OPMH service Psychological Therapy Team.

The Greenwich OPMH service Psychological Therapy Team offers a broad range of psychological input to our Older People’s Mental Health and Memory Services. The post holder will provide a comprehensive evidence based assessment and therapy service, including group, couple and family based interventions, individual therapy for service users and carers, groups and workshops for carers and people with dementia adjusting to the diagnosis, and neuropsychological assessments, as well as contributing to the therapeutic functions of the teams. Services will be delivered both in clinics and in clients own homes.

Continuing the improvement of access and treatment of people over the age of 65, you will further develop and maintain relationships with the Older Adult teams and other Older Adult Psychologists in Oxleas NHS Trust and third sector organisations and services. You will use your training and expertise to train the team of CBT Psychotherapists, Counsellors and Psychological Well-being Practitioners, in older adult development and associated cognitive decline (dementia, strokes etc.), and to help the team appropriately identify those who need specialist help and those who can benefit from primary care IAPT. You would also be responsible for implementing treatments appropriate for this age group (adapting CBT treatments) and developing a network with services for older adults, with a focus on integrated care. You will bring innovation to the service from the existing evidence-base and good practice from other IAPT sites working with older adults. You will line manage and clinically supervise an Assistant Psychologist. You will receive expert supervision from the Older Adult Psychology service in secondary care, in addition to supervision within the IAPT service.

Alongside your service development role, you will be expected to deliver psychological therapy interventions (CBT) on an individual and group therapy basis. You will be competent in the CBT model and be able to apply this across the age span. You will join a friendly and supportive team consisting of CBT Psychotherapists, Clinical/Counselling Psychologists, Psycho-therapeutic Counsellors and Psychological Well-being Practitioners. We have strong links with the Older Adult Mental Health services.

Oxleas has a large, well-established and supportive psychology department which is part of the Therapies Directorate within the Trust. This provides strong leadership and professional management and supports staff by prioritising supervision and continuing professional development. The department contains Psychologists with extensive training and experience in cognitive, psycho-dynamic and systemic approaches. There are strong links with the Institute of Psychiatry and the South Thames (Salomons) Clinical Psychology Training Scheme. There are good working relationships with both managers and other senior clinicians, and psychological therapy is well represented at senior managerial and clinical levels. The input from Psychologists is valued within the Trust and we undertake important roles, not only in clinical work, but also management, service development and clinical governance.

You will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities. Community languages would be an advantage. You will be expected to work one shifted day per week (until 8pm), under Agenda for Change terms and conditions.

Please note, Oxleas operates a probationary period, further information available on request.
