Post Graduate Clinical Pharmacist (Rotational)

£30,401 - £37,267 (Band 6)

Full time - Permanent Position

Can you meet the challenge?

An exciting opportunity is available for an enthusiastic and self-motivated pharmacist with well-developed interpersonal skills, to join our lively and innovative pharmacy team at St Mary’s Hospital on the beautiful Isle of Wight.

The Isle of Wight is unique in combining acute and community services, mental health and ambulance in a single trust, creating a truly ‘joined up’ integrated approach to healthcare. Our modern hospital is continually being improved for patient care and experience. The last six months has seen the opening of a new Outpatient department and Urgent Treatment Centre. We also work closely with the local mainland Trusts for collaborative service provision.

The Pharmacy department at St Mary’s Hospital is energetic and forward looking, with a strong culture of patient safety and service quality. We believe in technology supporting excellent clinical practice and releasing time to care, with electronic prescribing and medicines administration (EPMA) embedded in practice across the Trust and used creatively to enhance clinical practice, a fully integrated medicines management system that interfaces EPMA seamlessly with dispensing, stock control, and the pharmacy robots. EPMA also interfaces with the ward based medicines storage system.

As a rotational pharmacist you will get the chance to work in our busy Medical Assessment and Admissions Unit (MAAU) and Emergency Department and use your skills in medicines reconciliation to transcribe patient’s drug histories directly onto EPMA. You will also gain clinical experience in General Medicine, Stroke and Elderly Care wards, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Mental Health, Oncology services and Hospice care.

The post comes with an opportunity to study for a post-graduate certificate/diploma in clinical pharmacy. We will also support you to develop in line with the Foundation Pharmacist Framework and will provide training to support your leadership and management skills.

The pharmacy already provides an extended 7 day week service and your full time hours will include taking part in the provision of ward and dispensary support over weekends and on-call duties.

The Isle of Wight is easily reached from Portsmouth, Lymington and Southampton by ferry, catamaran or hovercraft with a fast train from London, and the hospital is only a short bus journey from all ferry terminals. The island offers a huge range of leisure pursuits, with 65 miles of coastline for water sports, and hosts several international sports and music events. Supported hospital accommodation is available on site, and alternative accommodation is available near the ferries if preferred.
