We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and committed Registered Pharmacy Technician to complement our award winning Primary Healthcare Team based at HMYOI Wetherby, delivering healthcare to very vulnerable and highly complex young people.

The post holder should be ready for a new challenge, show initiative in supporting service development and work collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team. About the role!

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will assist with the delivery of a safe, legal and high quality prison Pharmacy service.

You will:
. Work closely with the Clinical Pharmacist, other healthcare professionals and prison staff
. Administer medications using EPR (Electronic Patient Record) to patients from the wing based treatment rooms
. Carry out Medicines Reconciliation on new receptions to the Prison
. Assess the suitability for use of patients own medication
. Undertake risk assessments of patients to determine their suitability to hold medications in possession and carry out checks to ensure compliance
. Co-coordinate medication supplies to ensure that medicines required are in the right place at the right time
. Work with GPs and other prescribers to ensure medicines are prescribed safely and in line with our formularies
. Support the continuity of care by ensuring medication or prescriptions are available to facilitate discharge
. Participate in audits, taking the lead role in some areas
. Provide training and support to members of the healthcare team
. Provide smoking cessation (after completing the NCSPT training program)
. Triage and treat minor illness / injuries, signposting to our Primary Care Nurses

In agreement with your line manager you may be required to carry out other duties reasonably expected with the banding of the post.

The Pharmacy Technician team provides a service between 7:30am and 20:30pm, 7 days a week.
This consists of 13 of the above shifts over each 28 day period.

About you!

You will hold NVQ Level 3, BTEC or equivalent qualifications and must have a current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council to be considered for this role. You will also have relevant post-qualification experience working within a multi-disciplinary team.

You must have excellent communication skills, be well organised and have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, be able to adapt to changing demands and be committed to providing a high quality patient focused service. A good understanding of risk associated with medicines management, along with risk management initiatives are important attributes, as are attention to detail, a good knowledge of the regulatory and legislative environment and safe management of controlled drugs. Experience of working with this client group and of working within a secure environment is desirable but not essential , as a comprehensive induction package is provided.
