In response to NHS England’s recent Strategy and Service Specification for the future of Genomics services in England, Newcastle Teaching Hospitals, Leeds Teaching Hospitals, Sheffield Children’s Trust and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals have formed the Yorkshire and North East Genomics Laboratory Hub; an exciting collaboration to provide services for Genomics across Yorkshire and Humber and the North. The combined size of our geography makes this the largest collaboration in the country with the Trusts offering a range of both general and specialist hospital services with excellent clinical outcomes for patients. We have an international reputation for excellence in specialist care, research and academic training.

The IT for Genomics is a mission critical complex IT system not only allowing the Genomics service to function on a day-to-day basis providing patient care, but also providing the necessary information for all aspects of management of the service, from sample processing and management through to billing and the maintenance of the financial performance.

We are looking to recruit a permanent Band 7 IT Specialist to work at Yorkshire and North East Genomic Laboratory Hub (Y&NE GLH) Central Laboratory based at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds:

The role responsibilities include:

•        Under the overall supervision of the Lab Manager, provide a key role in the delivery, implementation and ongoing development of IT which impacts and underpins departmental functions across LTHT Genomic services.

•        Day-to-day development of simple systems including testing and validation, and configuration of more complex systems, along with day-to-day support and ongoing maintenance of electronic solutions and database systems.

•        Liaise with appropriate non-IT personnel at various levels within the department to advise regarding specialist or complex IT issues and deliver solutions, according to validation protocols and procedures in place in the laboratory.

•        Liaise with Trust IT Services to ensure that the IT systems within the department (LIMS, LINUX, hardware/software interfaces) operate as efficiently as possible within the context of the Trust and NHS IT infrastructure.
