LAS ST3+ Clinical Education Fellow

Acute Medicine

12 months fixed term post


We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our team in the role of LAS ST3+ Clinical Education Fellow in Acute Medicine.

HDFT is a “double excellent” Foundation Trust and is the principal provider of hospital services to the population of Harrogate and Ripon and the surrounding rural district. It has a catchment population of 185,000 and is one of the highest performing NHS Trusts in the UK.

To develop an interest in medical education, you will be provided with funding to complete a PGCert in Medical Education at the University of Leeds together with appropriate study leave for the coursework requirements. The setting will provide the opportunity to develop ward and tutorial-based teaching skills in addition to developing leadership and management skills as part of the HDFT medical education team. You will attend quarterly medical education meetings and the twice-yearly meetings with the University of Leeds to discuss placement feedback and future medical student planning. In your undergraduate education role, you will be eligible to apply for the honorary title of Clinical Lecturer for the University of Leeds.

Harrogate supports the University of Leeds in delivering high quality education to 3rd, 4th and 5th year medical students. Due to the clinical pressures on the acute floor, providing acute medical experience for medical students in addition to clinical work can be challenging. The purpose of this post is to provide an additional medical registrar on the acute floor who is supernumerary to the on-call team. The main responsibilities are to provide ward based teaching / supervision of medical students when they are on placement. Whilst on the ward you will be expected to help the on-call team by seeing patients with students or by reviewing patients following a student clerking. When there are no students timetabled to be on MAU, you will act as a second registrar on-call and share the workload. This position will provide the successful applicant with the opportunity to develop a special interest and contribute to service development.

The post will require an on-call commitment in addition to the day-to-day support of the admissions unit.
