We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join the NHSBT H&I Service Development Laboratory located at the Colindale Blood Centre in London. The role of the laboratory is to translate research into clinical use to help improve our H&I services.


The successful candidate will join a dynamic team in leading projects aimed at the design, development and implementation of new in-house molecular diagnostic tests for HLA, HPA and non-HLA pharmacogenetic SNPs as well as investigating and introducing the latest genomic technologies into our national H&I services. Other responsibilities include training staff and supporting our six H&I clinical laboratories by providing key advice for any Research & Development (R&D) needs.


You should possess a PhD in a relevant science subject, e.g. molecular biology, human genetics or equivalent. Experience in a R&D environment with extensive working knowledge of PCR, qPCR and/or Next Generation Sequencing techniques would be essential.

The normal working hours for this role are 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday, with occasional travel to other NHSBT Centres as and when required (with notice).


The salary as of 1st April 2020 will be £38,890 - £44,503 pa.


This post will also attract an Outer London High Cost Area Supplement of 15%, based on a minimum payment of £3,784 per annum and a maximum payment of £4,822 per annum (as of 1st April 2020).
