The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Swindon is proud to have a team of highly skilled, kind and compassionate staff that deliver high quality care for our patients. The Trust provides acute services from the Great Western Hospital and community healthcare services across Swindon. We are an ambitious and progressive Foundation Trust, committed to continuing our quality journey so that we can exceed our patient’s expectations.

We have recently been successful in our bid for £30 million of national funding to develop an Integrated Front Door, expand our Emergency Department, purchase land for potential expansion and to help us develop new models of care, such as an intensive rehabilitation offer. And we have many more ambitious plans. This is a great and exciting milestone which will help us to maintain quality and safety for people in Swindon and the surrounding areas over the coming years.

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic person to join our friendly team working in the Unscheduled Care Directorate based at the Great Western Hospital as a Medical Secretary. You will be working in the Department of Medicine for the Elderly, Neurology and Stroke Medicine, but may at times be required to work in other Departments within the Directorate.

Your role is to provide a comprehensive secretarial role to assist consultants and their teams, which will involve typing clinic letters and other related documents, with high accuracy and in line with agreed Trust targets.

The ideal candidate should have good communication skills and be able to prioritise their own workload. GCSE in English and RSA Typing or equivalent keyboard skills are essential. Previous NHS experience and a knowledge of medical terminology are desirable. Audio typing experience and use of Microsoft packages are essential.

The Trust actively encourages personal development and will be committed to supporting you to develop your skills in an environment where new ideas are welcomed and encouraged.
