The Trust provides a range of hospital services to a local community of around 430,000 residents along with an increasing range of more specialised services provided outside this area. We also provide a range of community based services across Sunderland, South Tyneside and Gateshead, particularly within Community Nursing, Family Care and Therapy Services.

Inpatient facilities are provided from Sunderland Royal Hospital (SRH), South Tyneside District Hospital (STDH), St Benedict’s Hospice and from the specialist Sunderland Eye Infirmary, giving a total number of beds of around 1200 acute beds, as well as a state-of-the-art ICCU at SRH. The Trust is continuing to invest in its infrastructure with: a new Emergency Department and Integrated Assessment Unit opened June 2017 at SRH; a state of the art Integrated Emergency Care Centre at STDH opened in 2012; in 2016 the Trust opened its new Endoscopy Unit at SRH; in 2017 the Trust opened its state of the art Surgical Centre at STDH in 2017; in 2017 the Trust opened its new state of the art MRI at STDH; in 2017 the Trust opened its state of the art Durham Treatment Centre providing satellite dialysis, out-patient clinics, imaging and day case procedures across a range of specialties. The Trust also provides an outreach service to our Durham patients for nephrology, urology, ENT, OMFS and ophthalmology. There is an onsite at SRH Fitness Centre and access to a Childcare Co-ordinator to help staff with their childcare arrangements.

Are you a Registered Pharmacy Technician seeking a new challenge? Or perhaps, a newly-qualified Pharmacy Technician looking to develop new or existing skills? Or are you a student Pharmacy Technician qualifying this summer?  South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust are looking for you.

We provide emergency care, Acute medical and surgical services as well as diagnostic and specialty services from South Tyneside District Hospital and City Hospitals Sunderland. The Trust also provides community services which cover the South of Tyne area (Gateshead, South Tyneside and Sunderland).   

You will be joining a friendly department based at either the South Tyneside or Sunderland site but also be able to work across multiple sites. The Service benefits from the successful working relationship between our clinical and technical teams, who work together as patient-focused teams providing high-quality clinical and technical services to our patients. There is also a strong emphasis on supporting you in developing medicines management, clinical, leadership and mentoring skills to the next Band 5 level.

We are looking for capable, confident and enthusiastic qualified Pharmacy Technicians from any sector or Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technicians who anticipate qualifying this summer, who wish to build on the skills you already have in an Acute hospital environment.  You must have completed or be about to complete a recognised Pharmacy Technician training course and hold a BTEC/NVQ3 or equivalent in Pharmacy Services (and be registered or about to be registered with General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacy Technician).

You will be required to carry out a broad range of duties depending on experience including; medication history taking, final accuracy checking, dispensing for discharge services, dispensing, clinical trials, medicines management, patient safety audit, use of electronic prescribing system, use of electronic medicines storage systems and training of other staff etc.  There is also a requirement to participate in evening, weekend and bank holiday rosters.
