Band 7 Radiotherapy Research Radiographer

Applications are invited from enthusiastic and suitably experienced Therapy Radiographers who would like to play a key role in the development of the Exeter Oncology Centre clinical radiotherapy trials portfolio.

Exeter Oncology Centre provides a radiotherapy treatment service to a population of 580,000 across North, East and West Devon, with approximately 135 patients undergoing treatment at any given time. We are currently equipped with three Varian iX linacs, all of which are fully matched, linked via the Aria Software record and verify system and VMAT/IGRT capable. Our linac replacement programme has commenced and the first replacement machine is due to be entered into clinical service shortly. Brachytherapy treatment is delivered using an Elekta Flexitron unit, providing a service for referrals from the South West region and also further afield. A Varian Eclipse planning system and Toshiba Wide Bore CT scanner form the pre-treatment and dosimetry sections of the department. We also provide a superficial radiotherapy service for the South West region.

We are seeking a Radiographer with the experience, skills and drive to lead the radiotherapy clinical trials service to ensure that patients are offered the highest standards of care through clinical trials and research outcomes being embedded in clinical practice.

In particular the post holder will be required to:

  • Take overall responsibility for the instigation and coordination of radiotherapy clinical trials within the Oncology Centre, collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to ensure that trials are prioritised

  • Participate in trials set-up meetings and the QA preparations required to support the clinical trials approval processes

  • Manage the radiotherapy trials workload and data within the department, maintaining accurate records of clinical trials activity

  • Liaise with key personnel to ensure that clinical trials data and information is accurate and available

  • Maintain their own clinical radiotherapy skills and competencies in a team lead capacity to ensure that best practice is established in trials activity and to facilitate their leadership in the implementation of radiotherapy clinical trials techniques and outcomes in the clinical setting

  • Instigate and lead local projects / audits in conjunction with the clinical team

  • Demonstrate their commitment to their own learning and development through appropriate post-graduate level study and qualification

  • Demonstrate an ability to organise and manage their own workload effectively and to manage resources efficiently

A flexible approach to work is essential and hours of work may vary between 8.30am and 8pm, with some weekend on-call and Bank Holiday working.
