GREAT WESTERN HOSPITALS NHS FOUNDATION TRUST

Associate Specialist Stroke Medicine

Applications are invited for candidates interested in being part of our Stroke team. We currently have 1 senior doctor vacancy so we are looking for candidates at Associate Specialist or Consultant level. We would welcome applications from senior candidates and would be delighted if you joined our really good Stroke team.

Currently there is one constant Stroke consultant, but Neurologists help with acute referrals, pre-alerts, TIA Clinics and Forest (rehab) ward rounds too. Ideally, the team would like to step away from some of these activities due to an increased activity of their own. We are proud to be part of a really good stroke team. We have 4 Stroke specialist nurses (all work part time), 4 junior doctors (at present two F2 on Falcon ward and two GPST on Forest ward) and medical registrar (who does a lot rota so not often able to help with Stroke). We are also currently recruiting a Stroke middle grade to ensure we provide the best service we can.

The post is substantive, but candidates wishing to apply for a fixed term role will also be considered. Current Stroke consultant (Dr Bajoriene) is very friendly, supportive and flexible.

We are small ward (18 beds, 4 hyper acute) but we have quite high turnover of the patients. There are approximately 600 admissions per year. The numbers of referrals and pre-alerts are higher then. We receive lots of TIA referrals, which we aim to see within 24hrs. We have daily (including weekends) RA TIA Clinic with 3 slots each. Sometimes it does get busy, however, we have a very supportive team and consultants will support you.
