Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of services including secondary mental health care across this area. Specialist provision comprises inpatient child and adolescent mental health services, perinatal mental health and forensic services including low and medium secure care.

An opportunity has arisen for an apprentice to join our forward thinking and friendly Human Resources Directorate.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual, who is interested in an Administrative Assistant Apprenticeship role within our Quality Academy Team.

 

The role will involve providing administrative support to the Quality Academy Team within the Directorate whilst undertaking a Business Administration Apprenticeship at Level 2.

Business Administration Apprentices are employed on a fixed term Apprentice Agreement with the Trust for 15 months.

During your employment you will be given the opportunity to gain knowledge and learn a wide range of administration skills. These experiences and skills will support you in applications for further substantive posts within Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust, within the wider NHS and within other organisations.

The post will be based at Trust Headquarters, Sceptre Point, and Walton Summit with some rotation at The Minerva Health Centre, Preston.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Successful applicants will be working towards a set of core competencies so that they have the right basic skills, attitudes and behaviours for a business administration role. This will include general office duties such as filing, copying, using the telephone, customer care and using computer systems to view, input and update records.

Qualification and Skills Required

Applicants should be educated to GCSE in Maths and English Language or equivalent although this is not essential. Applicants should also possess a general understanding of Microsoft Office programmes and be able to use these to produce basic letters, documents and spreadsheets. Experience of working in an office environment through employment or work experience would be an advantage.

You will need to be hard working and an excellent team worker. Good communication is essential. You must also be able to recognise and work within your own limitations, be honest, punctual, reliable, and friendly and have a professional attitude to work.

The Business Administration Apprenticeship is ideal for anyone wishing to contribute indirectly to patient care through office, reception or other administrative working.

Although you will be fully supported throughout the duration of the apprenticeship we are looking for individuals with high levels of motivation and a commitment to contribute in the workplace. You will need good organisational skills and must enjoy working as a member of a team.

Training provided

You will complete a 15 month training programme as part of your apprenticeship which will include undertaking Level 2 Business Administration and Functional Skills (as required). The apprenticeship will be undertaken in collaboration with an approved training provider. There will be classroom sessions and work based assessment which contributes to the learning element of the programme. You must also complete a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your learning and skills in practice in accordance with the apprenticeship framework.

These vacancies are advertised on a fixed term contract basis due to this being an apprenticeship, the objective of which is to gain a recognised qualification and experience in the workplace. This does not include a guaranteed permanent post with the Trust however, on successful completion of the course; you will be eligible to apply for vacancies within the Trust, subject to the Trust’s usual recruitment processes. The apprenticeship will provide valuable work experience and a qualification that is recognised by employers.
