An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a competent and enthusiastic Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to work within the service within the Adolescent Pathway providing a successful highly specialist tier 3.5 service for young people in Bexley. This vacancy is due to the consultant being promoted to the Clinical Director for our directorate. You would work with adolescents up to 18 years, and their families/carers, with significant and acute mental health difficulties who are at risk of requiring Tier 4 inpatient care.

The team offers assertive and intensive multi-disciplinary interventions and as a community alternative to inpatient care. The team uses a mentalization based approach (AMBIT and MBT-A) in which training is provided to the post holder. The clinical lead for the team is the Consultant Clinical Psychologist and you would also be working alongside them as the consultant psychiatrist for the team, as well as colleagues from other disciplines including psychology, psychotherapy, family therapy, occupational therapy, nursing and social work. There are multiple opportunities for joint working both within the team and with partner agencies in Bexley.

The Consultant in Bexley Adolescent team will manage a complex caseload, assessing children and young people; prescribing medication as needed; assessing and managing risk; consulting to the team and also to external agencies. The service will be provided flexibly and on an outreach basis. You will also provide specialist advice and support to professional colleagues both internal and external to the Trust.

The post holder will have membership of the Royal College of Psychiatry, and also an accredited higher training in Children and Young People’s mental health; you will have excellent therapeutic skills and be able to be responsive and flexible in working with young people.

The psychiatry profession is well regarded within the Trust as a whole. Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship

Applications from job seekers who require current Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the current Resident Labour Market Test which will be in place until the end of December 2020. UK Visas and Immigration requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.

From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, have had to present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years.
