The East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre ( EMCHC) is entering an exciting period and this role plays a crucial part in its success.

EMCHC provides excellent Level 1 surgical and interventional services to our patients, we are now looking forward to the growth and development necessary to make our service the centre of choice.

We have worked hard to develop close relationships with the neighbouring hospitals and communities within our network to support and encourage referrals from their areas to us, and this partnership will continue to grow and develop over the next few years , with many opportunities for training, development and collaboration .

In order to meet the CHD standards on collocation of paediatric services, we have an exciting plan to move from the Glenfield Hospital to our main Leicester Royal Infirmary site in December 2020, this exciting move is the start the creation of a new bespoke Children's Hospital. This has been made possible due to the recent announcement of £450 million investment by the government for the University Hospitals of Leicester.

The project for this work is well underway and is a fantastic opportunity for the Congenital Heart Disease team to craft how they will work with their paediatric colleagues into the future .

EMCHC is also home to the largest ECMO centre in the U.K. and the only mobile ECMO service, we work hand in hand with this extraordinary team and are renown for training and research in this area.
