Clinical Research Fellow in Therapeutics

The appointee will undertake supervised research using a new NHSBT-maintained apheresis clinical database. The NHSBT Therapeutic Apheresis Service Consists of eight main sites with additional spoke services, in total providing around 10,000 procedures annually. Therapeutic Apheresis Services work closely with the seven Cellular and Molecular Therapy Laboratories around the country. NHSBT works with several NHS providers and this post will hold an honorary contract at University Hospitals Bristol for work with immune effector cell patients. There will also be work packages with the University of Bristol and the NHSBT Knowledge library which is based in Oxford.


The post would suit a specialist trainee with good working knowledge of haematology. Applicants must have a MBBS (or equivalent medical qualification), be established in specialist training and have full GMC registration with a licence to practise.


The post requires a high calibre individual, motivated to succeed and with the necessary inter-personal and analytical skills to manage a large collaborative, cross-disciplinary national project. A demonstrable interest in medical education, clinical research and an ability to work within a team are essential. It is expected that the output of this work would lead to a high number of publications, national and international oral presentations and the necessary skills to develop a career in haematology, cellular therapies or transfusion.


The Fellowship includes payment of fees to University of Bristol for a taught Masters in medical education (however if the successful applicant wishes an alternative higher degree could be pursued). The base is at NHSBT Filton, however the post holder will need to attend University Hospitals Bristol frequently and may require travel to other NHSBT units and Oxford during the post which are funded. There is no dedicated clinical commitment however depending on the successful applicants interests they will be able to attend clinics at University Hospitals Bristol and take part in the on call rota if they wish.
