If the advertised role is based in London on an Agenda for Change Pay Band, it will attract a High Cost Area supplement. This supplement is not applicable to Executive or Senior Manager or Medical Leader positions. For positions offered on a part time basis, salary and any allowances will be adjusted pro rata.

Are you passionate about improving the lives of people with cancer? Do you want to ensure more people survive cancer than ever before? Working in NHS England’s Cancer Programme, that’s exactly what you’ll do.

 

Working within the NHS National Team, you will set the agenda for cancer services in England. Working with patients, clinicians, charities and across the public sector, our aim is to reduce preventable cancers, diagnose cancer earlier, increase survival and improve the quality of life and experience for cancer patients. We develop national policy and strategy, and work with our Cancer Alliances across the country to transform services for patients.

 

This is an exciting time for the NHS Cancer Programme. Our work to implement the Independent Cancer Taskforce strategy has already started to transform the experience of cancer patients across England. The publication of the Long-Term Plan for the NHS provides us with an opportunity to go even further. You will be instrumental in delivering on our ambition to diagnose three in four cancers at an early stage so that even more people survive cancer in the future.

This role is advertised as a Fixed Term Contract till 31st March 2020, however it is expected to continue beyond this time. 

The Living With & Beyond Cancer (LWBC) workstream is a dynamic team that is driving a shift in NHS culture from focusing largely on cancer survival to one where quality of life and patient experience are given high priority alongside survival.

The successful candidate will have excellent project management skills and an ability to bring diverse stakeholders together to deliver the national strategy commitments for LWBC.

 

Primary responsibilities

 

    • Support the delivery of projects within the LWBC team, including project planning, management and reporting. These will include projects covering the measurement of quality of life in cancer patients as well as the implementation of personalised (stratified) follow up and Recovery Package interventions;

 

    • Support Cancer Alliances in their work to plan and deliver local improvements and meet targets around LWBC;

 

    • Engage with stakeholders, commissioners, clinicians, third sector, people affected by cancer and policy makers;

 

    • Work collaboratively with the cancer programme team and support work assigned to the team.

 

We are looking for candidates who can evidence: (See person specification for further detail)

 

    • Experience of working on and delivering complex projects to tight deadlines.

 

    • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including health professionals, senior managers, people affected by cancer, third sector organisations.

 

    • Ability to analyse complex facts and situations and develop a range of options.

 

    • Works well with others, is positive and helpful, listens, involves, respects and learns from the contribution of others.

 

    • Consistently looks to improve what they do, look for successful tried and tested ways of working, and also seeks out innovation.

 

    • An ability to work autonomously in a dynamic and pressurised environment is essential, as you will be working in a rapidly changing context with multiple priorities.
