Director of Organ Donation & Transplantation

Job Reference: 918-MX3782

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT)
918 Director of Organ Donation & Transplantation
£130,000 pa

At NHSBT we stand for hope. We stand for life. We stand for helping people do something extraordinary, saving and improving the lives of others. As an essential part of the NHS we take pride in playing our part to make the most of absolutely every donation – from blood and organs to tissues and stem cells. Are you ready to play your part?

In this role, you will not only improve the way we deliver organ donation – you will shape the nation’s view on the subject.

Over the last 10 years the rates of organ donations and transplants have increased to unprecedented levels. Whilst we are rightly proud of these achievements there is much more still to be done. So, your challenge will be to drive a ‘no missed opportunity’ approach to both donation and transplantation.

The initial focus will be on continuing to deliver our ‘Taking Organ Transplantation to 2020’ strategy. However, you will quickly need to secure support for the next strategy for Organ Donation, and implementing new consent legislation to reduce the number of people who die while waiting for a transplant.

An effective leader of people with the ability to be an advocate for donation you will lead the service through a period of change including service developments and responding to the outcomes of the Opt Out legislation currently progressing in England, Scotland and the Crown Dependencies.

Degree educated, hardworking and confident, your reputation for managing complex healthcare change will be matched by an astute political awareness and highly developed influencing skills. After that, it is your commitment that will impress – and ensure you build on our success for the benefit of our donors, their families and transplant recipients.
