We receive over 2 million blood donations a year, but you don’t need a medical background or any qualifications to help us get them. We just need your friendly, flexible approach to make our volunteer donors feel welcome, at ease and valued.

We’ll train you to test if someone can give blood, perform venepuncture (using needles to take blood), update records and give basic clinical advice and aftercare. Naturally, you’ll need to be comfortable with the sight of blood.

It’s your passion for people and reassuring nature that’s important, and will encourage donors to return and bring family and friends along to donate.

You’ll enjoy plenty of variety including taking the donor through the blood collection process, driving our equipment vehicles, loading/unloading and assembling mobile donation session equipment. You’ll find the camaraderie in the team and sense of pride after each day is hard to beat.

You will be working on a shift basis but we’ll let you know around two months in advance which days and hours you’ll be working. The normal hours for this role are 37.5 hours per fortnight, which will predominantly involve working weekends over 3-4 days (Saturday, Sunday and week days), and some bank holiday working will be included. If you are working an early shift, the earliest start time would be approximately 07:00, if you are working a late shift, the latest possible finish time would be approximately 22:00.You can expect to work some long hours, but you won’t be working more than five days a week or even the same days each week.

Please Note: Although this post is part time, the training you will need to complete will be on a full time basis for six weeks, during this time you will receive full time pay. You may also be required to travel as the training may take place at a different location to where you will be based.

This role will involve driving a 7.5 tonne van and 15-seater minibus, with suitable training, as and when required.

Along with an attractive pension scheme and other benefits you will receive a minimum of 27 days holiday, which increases with service.
