Our work in Cellular and Molecular Therapies (CMT) is central to the provision and improvement of haemopoietic stem cell transplantation. This work enables us to support approximately half of transplants carried out in England each year through a network of GMP compliant laboratories. We also carry out translational development activities with academic and commercial partners to produce novel cell based therapies for patients under an MHRA IMP license. Our expertise in GMP, quality and regulatory matters ensures that we always maintain the highest standards in the first class service we offer.


We have a vacancy for the Head of Laboratory in Southampton. This prestigious role offers you the chance to lead a modern well equipped cell therapy laboratory, taking responsibility for the relevant scientific, technical and clerical staff. In addition to the work supporting Bone Marrow transplantation you will also take an active role in developing a range of new cell therapies to ensure the service stays at the cutting edge of patient-focused care.


To qualify, you will need to have a PhD and be a HCPC registered Clinical Scientist or actively working towards this. A HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with a PhD would also be considered. You will also have significant relevant knowledge and experience of stem cell and related cell therapy preparation and testing under GMP. Your technical credentials will be complemented by excellent communication, training and leadership experience and skills.


The normal working hours for this role are 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday, with potential for on-call working (to be discussed at interview).
