UHBFT is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and clinically focussed individual as a Consultant in Emergency Medicine. The appointee will join the existing dynamic consultant team comprising 14 substantive post holders (11.9wte) who are committed to improving and advancing the quality of Emergency Care and training available locally and nationally.

This year the Emergency Department won a BMJ award, HSJ award and was recognised in two categories in the RCEM awards.

UHBFT comprises the Emergency Departments of Bristol Royal Infirmary and Bristol Children’s Hospital, this post will be based in the adult BRI ED service.

UHBFT is one of the busiest EDs in the South West seeing over 70,000 adult and 30,000 paediatric attendances per year. The attendances are of high acuity and reflect the broad spectrum attending an inner city ED which also serves a large tertiary referral centre for many specialities such as cardiology and cardiac surgery with 24 hour PCI available. There is separate 24-hour Middle Grade cover, a 24/7 Emergency nurse Practitioner service and an established physiotherapy practitioner service within the department.

UHBFT ED is an academic department with an active research programme which appointees would be afforded the opportunity to participate in.

The existing consultant body contains expertise in advanced airway management, pre-hospital care, point of care ultrasound, research and education, toxicology, paediatric emergency medicine and patient safety. The aspiration is to recruit further colleagues with interests complimentary to these currently represented. Advanced airway skills are preferable as is evidence of commitment to education and training.

The consultant body believes very much in a “hands on” approach to consultant clinical activity. This post offers an exciting opportunity for a motivated Emergency Physician to deliver high quality, effective clinical care in a busy inner city Emergency Department.

Applicants should be on the specialist register for Emergency Medicine. Instructor status in ALS/APLS/ATLS is preferable and in date provider status is essential. Further details are outlined in the Personal Specification.
