If so, we have an opportunity for you to join the pharmacy team providing services to respiratory patients at UHL.

We are looking for a dynamic, organised and motivated individual who is keen to support medicines optimisation and patient education in the management of long-term respiratory conditions.

This post will involve:

  • Participation in the multidisciplinary team delivering and promoting high quality, cost-effective, patient-focused pharmaceutical care to patients.
  • Acting as a clinical role model in their clinical areas and supervising rotational staff at ward level.
  • Promotion of safe drug use within the specialty.
  • Development, implementation and audit of local guidelines.
  • Auditing drug usage with the aim of promoting cost effective prescribing.
  • Assisting in financial reporting and drug budget management.
  • Ensuring seamless pharmaceutical care on discharge from wards and liaising with other healthcare professionals (primary and secondary care) as necessary.

We have well established links with the specialist respiratory clinical teams and work closely with them to provide support to our Asthma, COPD, Cystic Fibrosis, Bronchiectasis, TB & Interstitial Lung Disease patients to achieve optimal care for them. There may be need or opportunity for the post holder to lead pharmacy services in these areas. The post holder will work closely with and be supported by our Consultant Respiratory Pharmacist who has a passion for educating patients and other healthcare professionals. Her years of clinical knowledge and expertise at a national level enable her to act as a mentor and support career development in this specialist area.

Team-working, innovation, communication and influencing skills will be essential to being effective in the post. The post holder will look to expand the current remit of our service while maintaining the high standard services that we currently provide.

University Hospitals of Leicester is one of the largest Trusts in the country, serving a population of over 1 million people; across 3 hospital sites. It is an exciting time to join the Renal, Respiratory & Cardiovascular Pharmacy team following the Trust's imminent plans to fully roll out electronic prescribing and medicines administration to all UHL wards including the respiratory wards based at Glenfield Hospital.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to departmental evening, out of hours, weekend and bank holiday duties as per current rotas.
