CARDIOTHORACIC DIRECTORATE – RESPIRATORY

We are delighted to invite applications for this exciting opportunity to work between both primary and secondary care as you continue your professional development as a Physician Associate (PA).

Working two days a week within the Respiratory Department of the Cardiothoracic Directorate of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NUTH), a top performing NHS teaching hospital, you will form part of the multi-disciplinary team supporting a team of Consultants, Junior Doctors, Nursing staff and Therapists within the department and wards.

Participating in the medical rotas, successful candidates will be able to demonstrate a high level of competence in clinical skills and practice, work autonomously when required, and have the credibility and confidence to deal with a range of staff across the Trust and develop a network of key stakeholders.

You will assess and examine patients, manage a specific caseload of patients, present them, initiate and interpret investigations and recommend treatment, whilst exercising a high level of professional judgment and expertise when delivering care within this 24/7 service.

The additional three days a week you will be based in a local GP Practice where you will support the GP team and primary care staff.

These are both very exciting, very rewarding but demanding environments.

In addition to the training and support provided with the joint roles, the preceptorship offers you an excellent opportunity to attend weekly ½ day educational sessions provided by Health Education England to complete a bespoke primary care syllabus for those PAs particularly in their first year post qualifying

Candidates will be able to evidence a BSc/BA degree, a Postgraduate Diploma in Physician Associate studies from a UK (or US) training programme and valid certification of the Physician Associate National Exam. The post holder will also be required to be registered with the UK Managed Voluntary Register.

You will require a full UK driving license.
