GP - Prison Healthcare

The post holder will take responsibilities for all aspects of medical provision and specialist prescribing in community substance misuse and primary healthcare settings in the secure environments including:-

 

  • Full clinical assessment of patients.

  • Ability to formulate differential diagnosis and management plan.

  • Pharmacological assessment and prescribing.

  • Request and interpretation of clinical investigations.

  • Appropriate referral on and follow up to other specialist areas and secondary care services.

  • Information and advice and facilitation of informed choice for ongoing treatment and care.

  • Medical assessment and monitoring of chronic diseases in accordance with NICE guidance and local clinical policy.

  • Appropriate end of life care under clinical supervision from palliative care specialist services where needed.

  • Recovery oriented substance misuse treatment

Previous experience of working in secure environments or substance misuse is desirable and full training and supervision will be offered to the right candidates. Expert clinical support for the role will be accessible from our Lead Clinician.
