University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust provides acute and specialist paediatric services for Leicester and the surrounding hospitals in the South East Midlands including: allergy, congenital heart disease, endocrinology, ENT, gastroenterology, haematology, neurology, NICU, oncology, paediatric surgery, PICU, and respiratory medicine.

The paediatric Endocrine and diabetes service is a dynamic and ambitious team striving for the highest standard of care. We are a cohesive team comprising of 4 substantive NHS consultants split 2 sole endocrine/diabetes consultants, 1 endocrine and general paediatrics & 1 diabetes and general paediatrics. 

We also have 1 GRID trainee, 4 specialist diabetes nurses, 1 endocrine specialist nurse as well as a dedicated diabetes MDT with 3 dietitians, 2 psychologists as well as allied professionals.

We have a long-standing reputation for high quality clinical care, research and education, with our staff’s commitment to excellence reflected in our consistent performance at the highest level.

Working as a multidisciplinary team, we provide care a wider spectrum of tertiary level endocrine care from growth related disorders , pubertal disorder, DSD, late effect of cancer treatment, bone and adrenal disorders as well rarer disorders of glucose metabolism, inherited endocrine disease and syndromic endocrinology.

 We have a close quaternary relationship national centres and with QMC for children that need neurosurgery.

Our diabetes service offers expertise in not only routine diabetes care but also advanced technologies for sensor- augmented insulin pump therapy, CGMS and access to immunotherapy via our research program. We have a strong commitment to education around programs for structured education in type 1 diabetes as well postgraduate education via the Leicester diabetes centres MSC program.

Our paediatric investigation unit provides a comprehensive diagnostic service for endocrine & diabetes investigation. Including dynamic endocrine testing.

The successful appointee will be expected to participate in the paediatric Diabetes consultant of the week rota (including on calls for telephone advice), outpatient clinics, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and clinical audit. As well as the East midland endocrine regional on call service (via telephone advice). They will be required to undertake management duties and work in a multidisciplinary team.
