An exciting opportunity has arisen within Solent NHS Trust to become a Memory Café Volunteer. There are a few posts available - the locations will be across Southampton. This includes Manston Court (Lordshill) andMedwell Court (Thornhill). The required hours are as followed:

  • Lordshill Church, Lordshill (2nd and 4th Wednesday in month)
  • Medwell Court, Thornhill (1st and 3rd Tuesday in month)

The aim of the role is to offer both carers and those with dementia a safe, non-judgemental environment where they can relax and enjoy themselves. Your role will involve receiving tasks from the Admiral Nurse on duty, which will be in line with the attached role description. Some of these tasks are included below:

  • Meet and greet people - assisting them on arrival.
  • Join in group activities and offer support to those who need help.
  • Talk to people in a non-judgemental and positive manner which over time builds a trusting and supportive therapeutic relationship.
