Consultant Nephrologist with Transplant Interest

Applications are invited for a Consultant Nephrologist to join the Nephrology and Renal Transplant Service , currently based at Leicester General Hospital. The appointee will be part of a team of 12 nephrologists providing a comprehensive service for nephrology and renal transplantation. This post will have a particular focus on providing enhanced nephrology input into the inpatient and outpatient care of patients undergoing kidney transplantation.

Transplant activity has been increasing in recent years in line with the national trend. In 2018/19, 129 renal transplants were performed in Leicester of which 30 were live donor.

The transplantation service has traditionally been surgically led, but relies heavily on a team approach and the surgical staff work in conjunction with Consultant Nephrologists and Consultant Anaesthetists with responsibility for the transplantation programme.

Applicants must already be on the GMC specialist register or be eligible within 6 months of the interview date either by a Certificate of completion of Training (CCT) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).

The successful appointee will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and clinical audit. They will be required to undertake management duties and work in a multidisciplinary team.

The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust consists of three acute teaching hospitals serving the population of Leicestershire. It is fully committed to Continuing Medical Education for consultants.As this post is regulated by the Protection of Children Act 1999, The Criminal Justice Courts Act 2000 and / or the Care Standards Act 2000 an enhanced disclosure by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) will be undertaken.
