Transport Coordinator Team Manager (Out of Hours)

Job Reference: 918-TM4714

Employer:
NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT)
Department:
Transport Colindale
Location:
Colindale
Salary:
£24,214 - £30,112 pa (plus HCAS)

Logistics, manufacturing, warehousing, office or team management – whatever your background, this is an operations role that comes with great pride and a wealth of responsibility. You’ll lead a team that allocates and distributes blood across the country, and help save hundreds of lives every single day.

Keeping the blood flowing

This is about using your experience of managing large teams. To supervise, train, develop and support the people who take calls from hospitals, process records, handle donations and transport blood – and gear everything towards effectiveness, accuracy and reliability.

A strategic and practical approach

In practice, you’ll work closely with the National Transport Operations Manager and other senior stakeholders to define operational priorities, policies and annual plans. You’ll also lead recruitment and evaluate performance.

Equally, you’ll be responsible for budgets and centralised rosters, and setting the benchmark for a customer-focus culture. When needed, you may even join the rota and provide out-of-hours advice and guidance yourself.

A challenge for a confident operations expert

An NVQ Level 4 in Business and ECDL or RSA 2 or 3 (or equivalent experience) is essential. But it is your flair for organisation, astonishing eye for detail and natural talent for communication that will mark you out. In particular, you’ll love managing rotas, meeting stringent policies, and getting the best from a mix of paper and digital systems.

Naturally, you need the flexibility to work outside normal office hours (on a 7-day rota, and Saturday/Sunday 24-hour rota), bring that, all of the above -– and the innovation to make our service even better – and the country’s life-giving blood will be in very safe hands indeed.

This vacancy is on a fixed term/ secondment basis for 12 months. Secondments will be considered for NHSBT staff wishing to apply for this role, however, please discuss the possibility of a secondment with your current line manager before applying.

This role will also attract an Outer London High Cost Area Supplement of 15% (£3,722 - £4,516 pa).
